Renata Blake grew up in the tropics with her wolf-dog companion by her side. They spent their time finding the coldest spots on the island, or lounging in the AC.

When not discovering temperate forests 10,000 feet above sea level, Renata would write — and Blue would help. After Blue’s passing, Renata left the tropics, but part of her heart would always remain there.

Familiar Trouble came about when Blue’s spirit, still hanging around more than ten years after her death, finally pestered Renata into writing it. It’s her story as much as Renata’s.
